Pak v Ban (Final) -- Would winning momentum help Bangladesh attain Asia Cup glory?

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Thu, Mar. 22) – Spirited Bangladesh will take on Pakistan today in the final showdown of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament 2012, here at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.

Another interesting fact is that the same outfits played the opening match of the tournament on March 11 and after further 11 days they are again in front of each other for the final face-off.

Now Bangladesh have the required momentum in their favor after thrashing India and Sri Lanka consecutively to reach the final and this is really an alarming situation for Pakistan, running a bit low after crushing defeat in the hands of India.

The most of the cricket gurus think that Bangladesh wouldn’t have had the best chance to win any major cricket tournament other than today. Everything seems to be in their favor like home conditions, home crowd, winning momentum and relatively low-confident opposition.

India not sure to play in final despite a thrilling win against Pakistan in Asia Cup

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Sun, Mar. 18) – Asia Cup 2012 (Pakistan v India) - Scores: Pakistan 329-6 in 50 overs (Nasir Jamshed 112, Mohammad Hafeez 105, Younus Khan 52) v India 330-4 in 47.5 overs (Virat Kohli 183, Rohit Sharma 68, Sachin Tendulkar 52)

Not India but Virat Kohli beat Pakistan in a high-scoring affair here at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The match proved to be a thriller as expected always for the contest between these arch-rivals. 

India successfully chased 329 rather comfortably in the end. This is India's highest chase in ODIs, beating their Natwest final heroics in 2002. The very special innings by Virat Kohli was the essence of India’s victory. Kohli smashed 183 off 147 balls, hitting 22 boundaries and a towering sixer. He was named man of the match for his memorable innings.

Aizaz Cheema shines as Pakistan register second victory in Asia Cup

DHAKA, Bangladesh (Fri, Mar. 16) – Pakistan confirm their berth in the Asia Cup 2012 final, scheduled on March 22, beating Sri Lanka comprehensively by 6 wickets yesterday.

Pakistan not only beat Sri Lanka; but also earned a bonus point by achieving the target of 189 under 40 overs. Now Pakistan is on top of the points table with 9 points followed by India with 4 points and Bangladesh. Sri Lanka is just out of the tournament with the recent defeat in the hands of Pakistan.

Electing to bat first, after winning the toss, Sri Lanka had a poor start; but Upul Tharanga (57) and Kumar Sangakkara (77) played well to rescue their team. After Saeed Ajmal trapped Tharanga, the wickets kept on falling due to impressive bowling by Pakistan bowlers and the whole Lankan team sent back to pavilion for just 188.

Misbah-ul-Haq Retains as Captain for Asia Cup, No More Shoaib Malik and Imran Farhat

LAHORE, Pakistan (Sat, Mar. 03) – The eleventh edition of Asia Cup Cricket Tournament is scheduled to be kicked off from March 11 and PCB was due to announce their final squad for the tournament today.

Misbah-ul-Haq Retains as Captain for Asia Cup

As per latest media reports; Misbah-ul-Haq has been retained as captain by Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Saturday as the new selection committee, under Iqbal Qasim, finalized the  ODI squad for the upcoming Asia Cup in Bangladesh. 

The team is set to reach Dhaka on March 7 to participate in the 4-nation Asia Cup. Defending champions India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will be the other contenders in the March 11-22 event.

As expected Shoaib Malik and Imran Farhat were axed from the squad while most of the Pak-England series were retained for Asia Cup.

A brief training camp will be set up from March 5 and 6.

Cricket: Misbah-ul-Haq to prove his point winning 2nd T20 international today

DUBAI, UAE (Sat, Feb 25) – Pakistan will be feeling very relieved and soothing, especially the skipper Misbah-ul-Haq, with the recent victory Thursday against England in first of the three T20I’s after being thrashed by opposition in ODI series sweeping it all with 4-0 scoreline.

The recent triumph, courtesy to Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal’s sensible bowling at the death overs, has certainly boosted the confidence level of Misbah and his boys. He was criticised heavily for his defending approach in the ODI series which ultimately led to series whitewash by the hands of England, downed in the Test series by 3-0 against the same opposition.

Misbah's captaincy skills were not at their best in the 4-match ODI series, but in the Twenty20 match, he maneuvered his resources well, using the right bowlers at the right time and placing the fields correctly.

Misbah on Friday hit back at at criticism after his side's 4-0 defeat in the ODI series against England, advising a change of approach among critics.

"I have said that even after the Test series win that we have to keep patience," said Misbah following his team's 8-run victory in Thursday’s Twenty20 International.

"We should talk of the ground realities but we talk on other points," said Misbah in response. "We should talk of the bad performance (and) the areas where we showed weaknesses.

Shoaib Malik's Timely 39-run Innings Vital in Victory against England in First T20I (Video Highlights)

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – Former Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik, running a bad patch of form, played an important innings of 39 runs in the first Twenty20 Interntaional against England yesterday at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, Dubai.

Malik joined skipper Misbah-ul-Haq at 73/5 when Pakistan was losing their control over the match after a flying start provided by debutant Awais Zia (18) and Muhammad Hafeez (23). Pakistan lost Shahid Afridi (7) and Umar Akmal (0) in the 11th over by some superb bowling by Graeme Swann.

Malik started shakily but later on settled well and played his natural game to take Pakistan to a formidable total of 144. He was the highest runs getter with his 39 off 33 balls, with the help of five boundaries and a huge six off Samit Patel. 

England fell nine runs short of the target due to impressive bowling effort by Umar Gul and Saeed Ajmal and lost the match by 8 runs.
