ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 (3rd Quarterfinal): New Zealand v South Africa - New Zealand Sent Proteas Back to Pavillion

DHAKA - ICC Cricket World Cup 2011

3rd Quarterfinal: New Zealand v South Africa (Full Match Highlights)

New Zealand created a sort of upset sending Proteas back to their country defeating them by 49 runs.

In reply to New Zealand's 222; South Africa all out for just 176 with Jacques Kallis 47 as the highest runs from Proteas batsmen. Jacob Oram picked up four wicket and named as man of the match.

The best thing about this victory, I believe, that New Zealand never tried to play something extraordinary. They know very well their limits in bowling and batting; so they don't try to show heroics rather they use their mind and cricketing sense to outplay opponent exploiting their weaknesses.

India 87/0 in 10 overs - South Africa Stung by Sehwag and Tendulakr

NAGPUR, India – India flying away with the wings of Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag. They made South African bowlers look absolutely ordinary.

Morne van Wyk, South African wicketkeeper, missed an absolute sitter on the bowling of Morne Morkel off Virender Sehwag which might cost them a match like Kamran Akmal’s drop-catch against New Zealand.

Shots are flowing all over the park from the bats of Tendulkar and Sehwag. Tendulkar ins batting on 35 off 20 balls while Sehwag is on 46 runs off 41 Balls with 87 On the board after 10 overs.

Wold Cup (March 12) - Real Test of India and South Africa (Match Preview)

NAGPUR, India – Big Saturday coming having big match with two big sides of the tournament are going to compete.

India will take on South Africa tomorrow at Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium, Nagpur. The match is equally important for India to be invincible in the group and forward to quarterfinals without a defeat while South Africa will try to prove that the last downfall against England was just a mishap.

Apart from the teams’ wishes to be victorious; both of them will be low in confidence due to their low-par performance in the recent matches against their respective opponents. In the last two matches India’s top-order batting vulnerability has been exposed while in the first two matches their bowling almost let them down.

South African Spin Attack Can Win Them World Cup Title: Former SA All-rounder Lance Klusener

Despite the South Africa losing against England yesterday in a close-fought thriller, Lance Klusener, former South African all-rounder, perceives that their bold use of spin bowling could yet win them the Cricket World Cup.

He was talking to media in the context of Graeme Smith’s use of spin bowling just out of the way. Against the West Indies in Delhi, debutant leg-spinner Imran Tahir shared the new ball and took 4/41. In Chennai yesterday, left- arm spinner Robin Peterson also opened the bowling and claimed a career-best 3/22.

"I’ve been impressed with their thinking," Lance Klusener said.

"They’re thinking out of the box, and that’s what you need in a tournament like this."

South African spin attack, including Imran Tahir, Robin Peterson, off-spinner Johan Botha and part-timer JP Duminy have claimed 19 of the 27 wickets that have taken by South African bowlers.

As per the latest figures; Imran Tahir is the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker with 11, more than double that of his nearest South African rival, fast bowler Dale Steyn, who has five wickets after three matches.

England Shocked South Africa While India Got Through Ireland Test

India and England Won Their Important Matches of the World Cup

BANGALORE - - India and England won their respective matches today against Ireland and South Africa at Bangalore and Chennai respectively.

India won the match against Ireland by five wickets; but the performance of the Irish team is commendable, the way they tried to defend the small total of 207. They bowled according to their limits and forced Indian batsmen to make errors.

Ireland almost turned the tables when they picked up fourth wicket of Virat Kohli on the total score of 100; but then skipper played a responsible knock in the company of Yuvraj Singh, who himself played sensibly after dragging Ireland batsmen with his swinging deliveries.

Ultimately, Yusuf Pathan came out in the ground after captain and led the match to its end with his 24-ball knock of 30 runs. On the other hand Yuvraj Singh became the first player to pick 5 wickets and scored half century in the World Cups.

Earlier, India won the toss and invited Ireland to bat first. Zaheer Khan began the damage early in the innings, actually in the very first over. Ireland sskipper William Porterfield (72) and Niall O’Brien (46) played sensibly to rescue Ireland and took the score to 122. Both of them added 113 in the fourth wicket partnership. No other batsman posed any threat to Indian bowlers and the hero of the last match, Kevin O’Brien, fell cheaply on just 9 to Yuvraj Singh.

England Comes Out the Other Way to Hand Out Shocking Defeat to South Africa

CHENNAI - - What a match! An absolute thriller it was! England fought back powerfully to clinch the low-scoring thriller against powerful South Africa. With this 6 runs victory, they didn’t not only add the two points to their credit but also revitalized their quarter-final hopes.

England bowlers came back strongly after an impressive opening stand of 63 runs provided by Hashim Amla (42) and Graeme Smith (22). The real collapse was seen at 124 runs on the board when South Africa lost three wickets including AB de Villiers (25), Faf du Plessis (17) and Jean-Paul Duminy (0).

After the fall of top-order South African middle order failed to respond as effectively as required by the situation. I must quote here the words of Sohail Tanveer, left-arm Pakistani pacer who’s out of the world cup due to knee injury.

Mtutuzeli Nyoka, President CSA, Sacked for Alleged Wrongdoings in Bonus Payments Issue

JOHANNESBURG - Following a vote of no-confidence in a Special General Meeting on Saturday; Mtutuzeli Nyoka, President Cricket South Arica, has been terminated over the issues of bonuses paid to CSA staff members for the conduct of the 2009 IPL. He had big conflicts with with CEO Gerald Majola on this matter.

Even sports minister Fikile Mbalula's intervention could not cool down the tensions between Nyoka and Majola. AK Khan, CSA vice-president, has been nominated as the acting-president until the elections in August at the Annual General Meeting.

Nyoka demanded for an external probe into the issue of bonus payments but the CSA board selected for an internal investigation at the end of which CEO Gerald Majola came out cleared of any unlawful activity.

SuperSport Park, Centurion
January 23, 2011

India lost the 5th ODI by 33 runs under D/W method and also lost the series with 3-2. Deadly fast bowling by Proteas bowler never allowed Indian batsmen to recover and play confidently.

It was all over when the late order resistance lead by Yusuf Pathan came to an end on 219 runs in the 36th over. Pathan played brilliant knock of 105 off 70 balls; but couldn’t change the fate of the match. Last wicket of Zaheer Khan took by L Tsotsobe.

Earlier, South African innings disturbed heavily by the delay caused by rain; but lethal exhibition of fast bowling from South African bowlers covered the damage done by rain with their accurate line & length.

Opener Parthiv Patel was the only resistance from top-six batsmen with his smashing 38 off 34 balls. The damage started with the wicket of Rohit Sharma who fell prey to L Tsotsobe on the total score of 21. India kept on losing important wickets with regular intervals and started to feel the heat on 60/5 after 12 overs.

Morne Morkel claimed four wickets including Patel, Kohli, Dhoni and most important of them all Yusuf Pathan. Yuvraj Singh and Suresh Raina forced to play shots that only find fielder on the way. Dale Steyn took Raina and Yuvraj on 8 and 11 runs respectively.

Then spinners came into action when Johan Botha and Peterson trapped Harbajan Singh and Piyush Chawla very cheaply.

South Africa v India (5th ODI) Updates: Rain Delay Proved Deadly for South Africa

South Africa set a target of 251/9 in 46 overs with an average of 5.46 runs per over.

Match started again after the rain but with a bad news for South Africa the allotted quota of cutting short of overs to 46.

That made Proteas to do something quickly to set a reasonable target to threaten Indian strong batting line-up. In this line of action JP Duminy lost his wicket in the very first over, after play resumed. of Munaf Patel. He got out catch & bowled after having wonderful partnership of 100 off just 97 balls with Hashim Amla.

After Duminy, Faf du Plessis, comes to crease but couldn't manage to live long and falls Munaf Patel on the second ball of the 45th over. He scored only 8 runs off 6 balls. Munaf patel struck again with a gap of just two deliveries to claim the wicket of JohanJohan Botha out for just 2 off 2 caught by wicketkeeper MS Dhoni. Botha was the third victim to Munaf Patels good line and length.

Robin PetersonRobin Peterson falls to Zaheer KhanZaheer Khan in the 46th over; happened to be the last over of South African innings due to rain-short four overs innings. Ball was right in the block hole to strike to stumps of Peterson. An ideal ball to bowl at the death overs. Dale SteynDale Steyn got run out on the very next ball. Morne MorkelMorne Morkel survived despite a good delivery from Zaheer Khan; but trying to rotate the strike to Hashim Amla he got himself soft run out by Dhoni. In the last over they lost three wickets for just one run.

The pick of the South African innings was definitely an unbeaten innings of Hashim Amla. He scored brilliant 116 off 132.

Zaheer Khan, and Yuvraj SinghYuvraj Singh claimed two wickets each; while Munaf Patel took three wickets.

Overall, it was all collapse for South Africa after the delay caused by rain.

India v South Africa (5th ODI); South Africa Well Placed After 40 Overs With 212/3

South Africa well placed after 40 overs with 212 runs on the board losing just three wickets. Two set batsmen hashim Amla and JP Duminy on the crease to threat a big target close to 300 mark.

hashim Amla just got his well-built ton in the 40th over accompanied by Duminy playing on 27.

South Africa will definite eyeing a total close to 300 atleast to take India on with the bowling.

Morne van Wyk also contributed handsomely with 56 runs.

India vs. South Africa (4th ODI Preview) - - Live Streaming: Watch The Action Live As India Set to Make Historical Series Victory

India vs. South Africa
Live Streaming
4th ODI
At Port Elizabeth
January 21, 2011, 18:00 IST (12:30 GMT)

India is on the verge of scripting history by clinching first ever series win in South Africa. India is leading the five match ODI series 2-1 at this moment.

However, injury blues are continued to hunt Team India as the skipper MS Dhoni hurt his ankle on Thursday during practice session. He is doubtful starter for today’s match but team sources said that he is likely to play in the match.

Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Sachin Tendulkar have already back to home due to injuries and Dhoni’s ouster may hamper India’s goal to win a series on South African soil after 19 years.

India has performed brilliantly in the South African series so far. The visitors managed to draw the Test series and won the only T20 game against Proteas.

In the absence of senior players, the young guns have performed brilliantly in the ODI series. After going 1-0 down in the series, Dhoni and his men fought back and took 2-1 lead.

However, the failure of top order is remained major area of concern for the skipper and coach. Few changes are expected in the batting order. Murli Vijay who just scored 18 runs in the three games likely to be dropped. Parthiv Patel, who joined the team as a replacement of Tendulkar, is likely to open with Rohit Sharma.

A look at the past tells us Port Elizabeth has never seen India in full bloom. The Men in Blue have lost all the four ODIs they have played at St. George's Park by big margins, once even to Kenya. But Dhoni's boys are adept at rewriting the past. So, stats and figures can wait. One thing which is common between the two teams is that both are looking to correct batting maladies. It has been a low-scoring series barring the first innings of the first game. While conditions have not been the best for strokeplay at all venues, the two captains expect better dividends from their line-ups. To achieve that end, India will have a new opener in Parthiv Patel who joined the squad on Tuesday as Sachin Tendulkar's replacement.

Port Elizabeth is known to be quite like Indian pitches - low and slow where scoring is not easy. India have just the right attack for this kind of wicket with part-time spinners complementing Harbhajan Singh, the standout Indian bowler in the series.

One change in the bowling department could be Ashish Nehra. He has not found his range here at all. Whether India chose to continue with Nehra or replace him with either a paceman, Sreesanth, or a specialist spinner, Piyush Chawla/ Ashwin, will be interesting to see.

The match will start at 17.30 hrs PST.

3rd ODI
At Cape Town
January 18, 2011, 18:00 IST (12:30 GMT)

CAPE TOWN: With series level as 1-1 the crucial 3rd ODI starts Today (January 18), the momentum is with India. They won the 2nd ODI thriller with just one run. The victory has come as a confidence booster for the team India that was bundled for a trivial in the 1st ODI. However, this time also the batters let down India as they were unable to pile up huge score.

Right now India’s top batting order is full with stars. But as we all know that most of them have difficulties playing on a bouncy pitch they have been unable to pile up runs. They have a chance to silence their critics by turning the table on their tormentors.

The team combinations are:

India:

Mahendra Singh Dhoni (captain/keeper), Sachin Tendulkar, Murali Vijay, Yuvraj Singh, R Ashwin, Piyush Chawla, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Virat Kohli, Praveen Kumar, Ashish Nehra, Munaf Patel, Yusuf Pathan, Suresh Raina, Rohit Sharma, S Sreesanth.

South Africa:

Graeme Smith (captain), Hashim Amla, Johan Botha, AB de Villiers (wicketkeeper), Jean-Paul Duminy, Faf du Plessis, Imran Tahir, Colin Ingram, David Miller, Morne Morkel, Wayne Parnell, Robin Peterson, Dale Steyn, Lonwabo Tsotsobe

India Tours South Africa 2010-11 - - 2nd ODI Johannesburg (Final Updates): India Levels the Series as South Africa Fails to Clinch a Low Targeted Thriller

South Africa can't manage to get through a thriller; which earlier seems to be a relatively easy task due to quite an ordinary target of 191 set by India batting first.

South Africa were going along well until captain Graeme Smith was there on the crease. But as soon as he departed (152/5) South African batting line crumpled to 178/8. Batting power play proved to be suicidal for South Africa same like India.

Skipper Graeme Smith played a healthy knock of 77 off 98 balls; but no one else manage to provide him a solid stand that leads to a nail-biting end of the match. Wayne Parnell played a sensible knock of 12 off  26 balls can't take South Africa home with victory.

Indian bowlers exhibited a good show under the leadership of Zaheer Khan; who took two wickets as Munaf Patel did for his side. Harbajan Singh, Ashish Nehra and Rohit Sharma shared a wicket each.
