England Ready To Take On ICC Champions Trophy Challenge

Andrew Strauss's men just about avoided a 7-0 whitewash in their home one-day series against Australia and will go into their first match against Sri Lanka low on confidence. But Strauss is looking forward to the challenge despite their disappointing form,

"It's the Champions Trophy, it's one of the big events, to be honest. I think there's something very exciting about being in the same couple of hotels as all the best players in the world.

He added, "It's quite intoxicating and it's an event everyone wants to win."

Strauss does not hide the fact that it has been a long summer and acknowledges the busy workload the team faces.

"The schedule is tough, there's no doubt about that, but that's international cricket. By the looks of things, it's not going to be changing in the near future."

The Champions Trophy runs until 5th October. England will then play a Twenty20 and a One Day series against South Africa in November.
