Indian Cricket League (ICL) Owing a Lot of Money To Australian Players; Played ICL Last Year

Former Australian quick Michael Kasprowicz is sick of broken promises from the Indian Cricket League and fears he may never be paid his six-figure contract fee.

As the Federation of International Cricketers' Associations threatened legal action on behalf of the rebel ICL players, Kasprowicz spoke out about his frustration.

Kasprowicz, along with former Australian stars Jason Gillespie, Damien Martyn and Matthew Elliott, have still not been paid for playing in the ICL last year.

"There is a considerable amount of money owing to me personally and there is a stack of promises that have never been met," Kasprowicz said.

"Right from the start the ICL had the support of the players involved and even when they couldn't pay us initially we still supported them.

"But they have missed so many payment dates. There is only so many times you can break a promise. It's not as though it is future earnings, it is money owed to us from a tournament that we played in.

"And it's not only the players - there are physiotherapists and support staff from Australia, New Zealand and South Africa that haven't been paid."

The ICL was started by TV mogul Subhash Chandra after his bids for Indian cricket rights were constantly rejected.

This year's March tournament did not take place and several of the Australian ICL players haven't seen a cent of their three-year contracts, worth about $280,000 a year.

The ICL has now collapsed and some countries have lifted bans on their players.

FICA chief executive Tim May said players were contemplating legal action against the ICL.

"For a number of months, FICA (on behalf of a number of players from numerous countries) has been in discussions with the ICL in relation to outstanding payments to players, officials and support staff, relating as far back to 2008," May said.

"These outstanding monies amount to millions of dollars.

"The players are sick and tired of the broken commitments from ICL and the evasiveness of various ICL officials."
