Pakistan Replaced Existing Keeper Kamran Akmal With Sarfraz Ahmed After Horror Performance Behind the Wicket in Sydney Test

Pakistan wicketkeeper Kamran Akmal has been discarded from the Pakistan team to play Australia in the third Test at Bellerive Oval starting next Wednesday.

Akmal had the worst game behind the stumps in his side's shocking 36-run defeat to Australia in Sydney, dropping down four catches; mostly routine ones.

He dropped Michael Hussey three times off leg spinner Danish Kaneria late on day three, helping the left-handed Hussey to pile up massive 134, helped Australian total of 381 in second innings that proved the graveyard for Pakistan batting line up when they started to chase the target of 176.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on its website that "urgent action" was desired, and will send Sarfraz Ahmed to take Akmal's place at Bellerive Oval.

"Pakistan Cricket Board shows it extreme concern over the poor display of professional cricket by Pakistan cricket team in the second Test match played in Sydney," it said.

"Chairman Selection Committee was invited today for a meeting with chairman of PCB to evaluate the situation."

"As a prompt reaction, it was agreed to send wicketkeeper Sarfraz Ahmed to Australia before the third Test to strengthen the wicketkeeping department.

"The tour selection committee has been informed accordingly."

The PCB says a performance review will be carried out at the end of the team's Australian tour.
