Hockey World Cup 2010 - - India Vs. Spain: Spain Outclassed India With 5-2; Leaving No Chance for India to Qualify for Semi-Finals

Full house, roaring crowd and pacey show-off was the major ingredients of the match between Spain and India. After losing to Australia; it was also a do or die situation for India.

India got two close chances within 10 minutes of the match; but Spanish defenders negated the efforts of Indian team with authority. In ninth minute Spanish forward also got open chance with only goal keeper to defeat; but the hit gone outside the right pole.

In 10th minute Spain got a penalty corner; but they couldn't convert it into goal. In first 15 minutes match was evenly poised and both team were attacking and defending effectively. Spanish defence was more active than their attack; but Indian forwards created many goal-less chances. At about the half way of first half, Indian goal keeper showed his class by stopping a real chance of Spanish player. It was his second save from Indian goal keeper

In 19th minute Spanish forward Alberta Sala got a brilliant pass on the top-of-the-D and he made no mistake to smash the ball into the nets defeating Indian goal keeper. In 22nd minute Indian defender checked the stick of Spanish player that was penalized with penalty corner but the chance was Spanish players. In the counter attack India also earned a penalty corner and brilliant stop by Spanish goal keeper saved a certain goal. Indian forward Sardar tried on the rebound but ball was sent over the pole by goal keeper again. Indian forwards missed another certain chance in 27th minute. Again a brilliant save from Indian goal keeper in the 29th minute stopped Spain to double the lead. But in the process Spain got a penalty corner; again a wasted one for Spain.

In the final five minutes of the first half; Spain was trying to slow down the pace of the match with long shots all around the ground but Indian team was exerting full pressure on the Spanish defence to set an equalizer before the half time. In the process they missed another clean chance by the nice efforts of Spanish defender.

In the last few seconds Spanish captain Pol Amat succeeded to double the lead for Spain on the brilliant pass from A. Fabrigas. The final scoreline was 2-0 at the half time.

Second half was even faster than the first one. Four goals were scored in five minutes. Two for India and two for Spain. Sandeep Singh halved the Spanish lead in 39th minute by converting a penalty corner into a first goal for India. That was 3rd goal of the tournament for Sandeep Singh. But Spain didn't wait for a long before they again created a gap of two goals in the scoreline. Pau Quemada scored his 2nd goal of the tournament; when he converted a penalty corner into 3rd goal of the math for Spain in 41st minute. In the very next minute Ramon Alegre scored his 3rd goal of the tournament, which was 4th of the match for Spain; increasing the lead of Spain by 3 goals. Then came the Indian forward Chandi to score the second goal for India.

The match was being played with the same pace and both teams were attacking the goal posts of the opposition furiously. India was awarded by two penalty corners in 44th and 47th minutes of the match; but both were saved by Spanish defender Garza and goal keeper, respectively. Spain also wasted a penalty corner in the process.

In the 49th minute of the match; Sandeep Singh showed his class by dodging four of the Spanish defenders before he caught in the D. Indian captain Rajpal earned a penalty corner with a great show of traditional Asian hockey in the very next minute; but Spanish goal keeper stood firmly in between the goal post and the ball.

In the next 17 minutes both teams played with the same spirit but none of them succeeded to make a goal until Pau Quemada scored his second goal of the match in the 67th minute of the match. That was Quemada's 3rd goal of the tournament that wilted all the hopes for India to qualify for the Semi-finals of the tournament.

The final scoreline was 5-2; interestingly, the same as in the earlier match between Pakistan and England.
