Tiger Woods Diagnosed by Inflammation in His Facet Joint After Pulling Himself Out of Players Championship

May 12 -- Tiger Woods has an inflamed joint in his neck that he’ll treat with physical therapy, rest and anti- inflammatory drugs.

The world’s No. 1 golfer, who pulled out midway through the final round of the Players championship three days ago because of neck pain, had a scan in Orlando, Florida, today that found inflammation in his facet joint.

“I now need to take care of this condition and will return to playing golf when I’m physically able,” Woods said in a statement on his website.

The layoff “is not expected to be extensive,” the statement said, without stipulating when Woods expects to return to tournament golf.

Woods, 34, said three days ago that his neck pain wasn’t related to a Nov. 27 single-car accident outside his Florida home that sparked revelations of extramarital affairs.
