Usman Khawaja: Pakistan-born New South Wales Batsman - - Named to Replace Australian Captain Ricky Ponting in Fifth Ashes Test in Sydney Starting from January 2

Pakistan-born Usman Khawaja, the 24-year-old New South Wales batsman, is going to debut his test career in the fifth Test against England in Sydney.

Doug Bollinger and Usman Khawaja were included in 12-man squad starting from 2nd January. Usman Khawaja substituted injured captain Ricky Ponting, who will miss the series finale with a broken finger, while Doug Bollinger was called as the replacement for injured pacer Ryan Harris.

Michael Clarke ought to take on the captaincy for the first time in test matches while Brad Haddin is named as vice-captain.

Andrew Hilditch, chairman of selection committee, said there was apparent disappointment at failing to win back the Ashes, with England leading the series 2-1 entering the Sydney Test.

"With Ricky being unavailable for this match we are sure that both Michael and Brad will lead this Australian side with great professionalism and the full support of the team as we strive for a victory in Sydney," Hilditch said in a statement.

"We look forward to Ricky completing his recovery and leading this team to a fourth successive ICC Cricket World Cup on the sub-continent at the completion of the Australian summer."

Hilditch said Khawaja's debut was "something we are excited about given his tremendous form at domestic level over the past two seasons".

Michael Clarke will captain Australia in the limited overs and Twenty20 matches against England following the Test series, with Victorian Cameron White his deputy.
