South Korea beat Bahrain 2-1 in the opener of the Group C at the 2011 Asian Cup football tournament in Qatari capital of Doha in early Tuesday morning, Korean standard time.
Koo Ja-cheol scored both goals -- one goal in the 39th minute of the first half and the other goal in the sixth minute of the second half. Midfielder Faouzi Aish earned the only goal for Bahrain in the 20th minute of the second half at the Al Gharafa Stadium.
South Korea will face Australia, which shut out India 4-0 in another Group C match on Monday night, at 10:15 p.m. Friday in Korean time, in its bid to end a 51-year wait for Asian Cup glory.
South Korea, 40th in the world based on FIFA's world rankings, has competed in the past seven consecutive FIFA World Cups, while Bahrain. 93rd, has never been to World Cup.
