Proposed Winter Episode of 2022 World Cup in Qatar Just Got Too Many Obstacles - - Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger

Arsene Wenger has stated that there are too many obstacles to overcome in order to shift the 2022 World Cup in Qatar so that it is played during the opening months of the year.

With many worldwide football schedules operating on an August to May basis, the Frenchman believes there would be too much disruption to domestic leagues, indicating that he thinks the clubs would not allow it to happen.

“It would mean [the World Cup] would reorganise schedules worldwide,” Wenger pointed out, according to the AFP news agency. “I don’t think it could happen. This would cause problems between clubs and countries, and between countries and FIFA.

"This seems like an idea that came from nowhere. Nobody was aware of it at the time of the vote.”

Wenger’s remarks collide directly with those made previously by FIFA president Sepp Blatter, who has repeatedly voiced his support for the competition to be held in the early months of 2022 and indicated on Friday that such a move is likely.

Football’s grandest show has never before been shifted from its traditional slot in the middle of the northern hemisphere summer.
