Recent withdrawal announced by World No. 13, Russian Maria Sharapova. Russian superstar Maria pulled out of the WTA Paris Open tournament due to a throat infection since the weekend and check with a doctor on Thursday morning before deciding to pull out.
Maria Sharapova, Russian second seed, who had a bye in the first round, was due to play Bethanie Mattek-Sands of the United States in the second round on Thursday. She had missed her media commitments earlier in the week and only managed to train for 10 minutes on Wednesday.
