Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) president Qasim Zia gave tips to the national team players during a training camp at the National Hockey Stadium here on Tuesday. The Pakistan hockey team members are undergoing training for the World Cup 2010 qualifiers to be held in France in November this year. In a brief lecture and demonstration, the former Olympian taught the players about tackling the ball, how to stop their opponent and regaining of ball. Talking to reporters after the coaching session, Qasim said before the start of the World Cup next year the relations between Pakistan and India would improve and bilateral sporting events would be restored between the countries. “We are confident that we will not only win the qualifying round, the team will also give good results in the World Cup.”

He said from the very first day the main task before the PHF was to produce good results at the 2010 Asian Games and 2012 Olympics. “We are working hard to achieve our goals.” Qasim said despite the financial crisis the PHF was working on their plans and they were thankful to the Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gillani, Punjab Chief Minister Mian Shahbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah for giving financial support to the PHF. “I hope the financial position of the PHF will improve by next year and after which central contracts will be offered to national players,” he concluded.
