Japan Open Title Boosted Hopes of France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga To Book a Place at The ATP World Tour Finals in London

The 24-year-old France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga beat Mikhail Youzhny of Russia 6-3 6-3 in Sunday's final to claim his third title of the year.

There are still three places up for grabs at the elite eight-man tournament at London's O2 Arena.

Tsonga, who also produced a late run to qualify last year, has three tournaments left to collect points.

Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Andy Murray, Novak Djokovic and Juan Martin del Potro have already qualified.

Andy Roddick looks certain to join them, but the remaining two places look set to be closely contested.

Tsonga is now seventh, ahead of Nikolay Davydenko.

"I am so happy to win another title and this puts me closer to London," Tsonga said after winning the fifth title of his career on Sunday.

"I have so much confidence now going into Shanghai and the indoor events. It's a great time of the year for me."

Tsonga's next tournament is the Masters 1000 tournament in Shanghai.

Last year, he qualified for the end-of-season tournament by beating David Nalbandian in a winner-takes-all final at the Paris Masters.

In the doubles final, Britain's Ross Hutchins missed out on his second title when he and Australian partner Jordan Kerr lost 6-2 5-7 10-8 to Austrian pair Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer.
