Juan Mónaco Beats Frenchman Jeremy Chardy in Paris Masters 1st Round

Juan Mónaco started with a win over Frenchman Jeremy Chardy (7-6, 7-5) in the Paris Masters 1000 tournament, the last tennis event of the season.

The Argentine player met Chardy only once before, during the Monte Carlo Masters tournament in 2009, and Mónaco had already won (6-2, 7-5).

In the next round, Mónaco will face third seed Serbian Novak Djokovic who just won the Basel tournament, beating Roger Federer in the final.

Juan Martin Del Potro, the other Argentine in the tournament, will face Russian Marat Safin. It could be Safin's last game as the Russian tennis player announced he will retire after the tournament.
