LAHORE - A petition has been moved before the Lahore High Court (LHC) seeking registration of case against Shoaib Malik and Sania Mirza for allegedly violating several provisions of law in their marriage function at Sialkot.

The petitioner also asked the court that their Walima ceremony is being held at Pearl Continental Hotel and its manager may be directed to conduct the Walima ceremony according to the law by ensuring one dish restriction.

The petition also prayed the court to issue directives for action against Dr Fardous Ashiq Awan, Federal Minister for Population, for declaring Sania Mirza as “Population Safeer” even she was Indian citizen and having no domicile of Pakistan.

Sheikh Hasan Sheraz, a resident of Gujranwala pleaded to the court that being a citizen of Pakistan he was aggrieved due to violation of law in the marriage function of Shoaib and Sania and he has the right to point out these violations.

The petitioner submitted that on April 25 a big ceremony was arranged at Sialkot Hockey Stadium which started at 8:00pm and continued till 1:00am in violation of Marriage Functions (Prohibition of Ostentatious Displays and Wasteful Expenses) Ordinance 2000. He submitted that District Coordination Officer Sialkot intentionally ignored to take legal action against them.

He said Sania has also violated Dowry and Bridle Gift Restriction Act 1976. He said the couple intentionally committed various illegalities with connivance of Shoaib’s parents, as there was multi dish reception in violation of Marriage Functions (Prohibition of Ostentatious Displays and Wasteful Expenses) Ordinance 2000. He added that on arrival at Sialkot, Sania and Shoaib displayed lighting arrangements amounts to wastage of a huge quantity of money, which is not possible in poor country and against the law for which they are liable to be punished.

He prayed the court to issue directives for legal action against Shoaib, Sania and Firdous Ashiq Awan in the interest of justice, equality and fair play.
