Wayne Rooney's Ankle Injury Not as Serious as Feared - - Revealed by Manchester United

Manchester United have revealed that Wayne Rooney's ankle injury may not be as serious as first feared.

Scans have shown the England striker has sustained "minor" ligament damage to his right ankle although at this stage the club have refused to confirm how many matches he is likely to miss. The news does mean that Rooney will be available for this summer's World Cup, although he will miss some key matches in United's run-in, including Saturday's summit meeting with Chelsea.

“We’re pleased to report that Wayne has not suffered a fracture. The scan revealed only minor ligament damage," a statement read.

The injury occurred moments before Bayern Munich scored the second goal of their 2-1 win in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday night, when the force of Mario Gómez, the Germany striker, landing on Rooney’s left foot prompted his right ankle to buckle.
