French Open 2010: Round 1 - - First-round Thriller Between Andy Murray and Richrad Gasquet; Murray Striking Back After Loss of Two Sets

Andy Murray has fought back against Richard Gasquet to trail by two sets to one in an absorbing first-round match at the French Open.

The British fourth seed lost the first two sets 4-6, 6-7 against his French opponent but won the fourth 6-4 to keep alive his chances of staying in the first major championship of the season.

In a charged atmosphere and baking heat, Murray accused Gasquet of time-wasting, repeatedly admonished himself for his mistakes and clutched his knee in apparent discomfort.

The Frenchman, who has been ranked in the world top ten but has slipped down the rankings after injury and a drugs ban, comfortably outplayed Murray for the first part of the match.

Gasquet, 23, was most profitable on his superb backhand while Murray - who is the same age as his opponent - struggled to find his rhythm and was failing to land less than 50 per cent of his first serves.

Still, the Scot managed to stay level until the tenth game of the first set but lost his serve and failed to break back in the next game as Gasquet showed no signs of fatigue, despite winning the Nice Open only on Saturday.

Murray looked about to lose the second set by the same margin but saved two set points at 4-5 to push the game to a tiebreak. However, frustrated by Gasquet repeatedly asking him to restart his service warm-up, Murray lost that 7-5.

But Murray looked stronger than his opponent - who had asked for the match to be pushed back to give him more time to recover from his first title win in three years - and took the third 6-4 to put the match into a fourth set.
