16th Asian Game Field Hockey: Pakistan Vs. Malaysia (Gold Medal Match)
Korea’s journey to the third consecutive gold medal in the Asian Games Hockey shattered when refreshed Pakistani team crushed them in the Semi Final of the Asian Games by the sudden death. The real hero behind this emphatic victory was Salman Akbar who made it possible for them as he whacked the dream of South Korea in the Semi Final to book the place for his national side in the Final against Malaysia where they have a wonderful chance of winning the Gold Medal.
The final is scheduled on tomorrow (Thursday, November 25) will be Pakistan’s first since they won the last of their seven Asiad titles way back in Beijing in 1990. Skipper Zeeshan Ashraf and his army with sticks are anxious to make their marks in Guangzhou after finishing an embarrassing last at the World Cup and lowly sixth at the Commonwealth Games this year, both in New Delhi. Also at stake for the winners of tomorrow’s final is an automatic qualifying spot for the London 2012 Olympics.
On the other hand, Malaysian will be coming into this Final match on the back of a great victory over India and will be full of confidence when they take on Pakistan for the Final. Their place in the Final is well-deserved as they came up against some big hockey nations like Korea, China and now the Indians to sail into the final.
