DUBAI : Sweden's Robert Karlsson won the season ending Dubai World Championship here on Sunday after a play-off with England's Ian Poulter.
Both players had birdied the first extra hole but disaster befell Poulter on the second as after pitching onto the green to 30 feet, he dropped his ball on his marker and it flipped over.
After checking with a referee Poulter was told he was putting for par rather than birdie and left it short. Karlsson therefore had two for victory, but made his for birdie.
It was a costly moment for Poulter as there was a difference of nearly 260,000 pounds between first and second.
