Amos Adamu's 3-Year Ban Sustained - FIFA Appeal Committee Announced Verdicts in Five Cases

ZURICH – On Friday (Feb. 4), FIFA appeals committee sustained the 3-year ban on FIFA official Amos Adamu, a former Nigerian government sports minister, on account of seeking bribes during the 2018 and 2022 World Cup bidding races.

The appeals body established a FIFA ethics committee ruling that Adamu wanted payments from British stealthily reporters who posed as lobbyists. Adamu happens to be the most senior FIFA official ever accused for bribery.

FIFA executive committee colleague Reynald Temarii also lost his appeal against a one-year ban for breaking confidentiality rules.

FIFA’s appeals panel moderately allowed appeals by three former executive committee members — Slim Aloulou, Amadou Diakite and Ahongalu Fusimalohi; who had their bans from all football duty condensed by one year each.

The all verdicts in these five cases were announced by the FIFA appeal committee after hearing at FIFA headqurters on Wednesday and Thursday. All the verdicts can be appealed at the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
