Lee Westwood Celebrates 38th Brithday with Indonesian Masters Victory |
Westwood's victory, which came on his 38th birthday, means he will take over top spot if his fellow Englishman Luke Donald - the world number three - fails to win The Heritage event in South Carolina.
Donald, who will become world number one himself with a win in America, heads into the final round of The Heritage with a one-stroke lead over defending champion Jim Furyk.
Westwood reigned supreme at the Royale Jakarta Golf club on Sunday, carding a three-under 69 to move to 19-under for the tournament and claim a three-stroke victory over Thailand's Thongchai Jaidee.
Westwood led by five strokes heading into the final round, but was even at the turn after a birdie at the first was followed by a bogey at the next hole.
He steadied however, with birdies at 11 and 12 to take a firm grip on the trophy.
Jaidee shot a bogey-free 65 to claim second on 16-under, with South Korean Park Hyun-bin, Thailand's Thitiphun Chuayprakong, Bangladesh's Siddikur Rahman and Australian Marcus Both sharing third on 13-under.
