MUMBAI - - According to reports buzzing around Indian media; the ICC cricket World Cup trophy given to Indian Team was not original.
Reportedly, the trophy given to Indian team by Sharad Powar in the ceremony at Wankhede Stadium (Mumbai) was without ICC logo and winner’s name.
The Indian media further reported that the original trophy is in the custody of the Mumbai customs who charged a tax of Rs. 2.2 million on it.
But the ICC decided to give away the bogus trophy to the Indian team after winning the final just to avoid the tax charged by Customs.
The original trophy of the World Cup would be sent back to Dubai today, tournament director Sauro Naik told media.
