Wimbledon 2011: Djokovic and Nadal in Finals |
In the process of advancing to finals of Wimbledon 2011; Novak Djokovic climbed up the world No. 1 tennis ranking by beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga on Friday (July 1).
Djokovic won the four-set match by playing steady, error-free tennis doing absolutely everything right—all of his weapons were working and he used them all. The final tally was 7(7)–6(4), 6–2, 6(9)–7(11), 6–3
In other semifinal, British hope Andy Murray was ousted by Rafael Nadal for the second year in a row as the top seed secured a place in the final of Wimbledon.
Nadal came from a set down for this 5-7, 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 victory, which took him through to a fifth Wimbledon final, to play Novak Djokovic for the Challenge Cup.
So Bunny Austin, the runner-up in 1938, is still the last British man to have featured in aWimbledon final, and Fred Perry, the champion in 1936, is still the last player from the home nation to have ripped through a draw-sheet on these lawns.
