Honduras 3-0 Win Over Hungary Take Them to The Top of Group F in FIFA U-20 World Cup Egypt

Honduras ended their run of nine consecutive defeats at the FIFA U-20 World Cup with a 3-0 win over Hungary to take them to the top of Group F. Ironically, their last win in this tournament came in 1977 against the same opposition, but this time they went one goal better.

And what goals they were. Mario Martinez opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a ferocious left-footed strike from the edge of the box and then doubled his team's advantage exactly 35 minutes later with a curling effort that swept beyond the outstretched dive of Peter Gulacsi.

But arguably the best was saved until last when substitute Arnold Peralta hit a lovely right footed shot from distance just beyond the reach of the goalkeeper six minutes from time.

It could have been more, in fact. Roger Rojas hit the crossbar and headed inches wide from close range following an Erick Andrino corner in the first half. The Olimpia Tegucigalpa striker also had his head in his hands shortly before half-time as he narrowly failed to connect with Angel Castro's left-wing cross.

In contrast, Hungary struggled to create genuine goalscoring opportunities during the game, although they did go close when Francisco Reyes palmed away Adam Presinger's free-kick in the first-half, while Krisztian Nemeth also saw a well-struck free-kick go narrowly wide.
