Brendon McCullum and Daniel Vettori have seen the Black Caps through to 276 for six at stumps on day one of the first cricket test against Pakistan in Dunedin.
Vettori is not out 40, and McCullum is unbeaten on 25.
McCullum was given out on the penultimate ball of the day, but successfully appealed the decision via the television review system.
Ross Taylor top scored with 94 and Martin Guptill added 60 - his maiden test half century. Mohammed Asif was the pick of the Pakistani bowlers with three for 76 off 24 overs.
