South African fast bowler Juan Theron has joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) side Kings XI Punjab for the 2010 season.
The 24-year-old, who is yet to represent the Proteas, has been in outstanding form for his domestic franchise, the Warriors, this season and was rewarded for his success by being handed a national contract last month as well as being named in the preliminary 30-man squad for the World Twenty20.
The Vereeniging-born cricketer was the leading wicket-taker in the 40-over competition where his 21 wickets helped take his side to glory, whilst he is also amongst the top bowlers in the first-class and Twenty20 tournaments.
The Warriors face the Lions in the local 20-over final later on Friday and Theron has been given permission to leave for India immediately afterwards.
He is expected to provide cover for Punjab's pace attack, which is severely depleted by injuries.
West Indian paceman Jerome Taylor is out of the competition, while Australia's Brett Lee, Indian Irfan Pathan and another South African, Yusuf Abdullah, are all not fully fit after fitness problems of their own.
