Swiss tennis star Roger Federer defeated defending champion Nikolay Davydenko in straight sets Saturday to claim the season-opening Qatar Open.
The second-seeded Roger Federer completed the 6-3, 6-4, victory in about 80 minutes, wrapping up the victory at the Khalifa Tennis Complex without facing a break point while winning 40-of-51 service points overall.
The Russian hung in there, saving 6-of-8 break points, but couldn't prevent the Swiss superstar from completing his 67th career title at the Australian Open tuneup.
The No. 4 seed Davydenko reached the finals by defeating world No. 1 Rafael Nadal in the semifinals, but fell to 2-15 all-time against Roger Federer.
