Beijing – In spite of losing to Kim Clijsters in Saturday's final of the Australian Open; Li Na has been saluted as ‘great’ tennis player who made history for Asian tennis.
'History-maker Li Na shines in Australian Open,' an official Xinhua news agency headline read.
The agency said Li had made history by becoming the first Asian player to contest a Grand Slam final and had 'won enormous honour for China.'
The agency said Li had 'showed her courage' by recovering from a match-point against her to beat world No. 1 Caroline Wozniacki 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in semifinal match on Thursday in Melbourne.
