Second seed Novak Djokovic humbled compatriot Viktor Troicki in straight sets to reach the quarterfinals of the 2009 China Open, being played here in Beijing, China.
The Serbian No.1 opened the match well with a quick break in hand and wrapped up the opening set in just over half hour of play. The second set turned out to be a cakewalk for the Masters Cup champion, who sealed the 61 minute victory with a 6-3, 6-0 scoreline.
Earlier in the day, fourth seed and Kuala Lumpur champion Nikolay Davydenko made a quick work of German Philipp Kohlschreiber to become the second player to reach the last eight of the event.
In the 57 minute match, Davydenko lost only eight points on serve and completed the 6-1, 6-0 victory to keep his hopes for back-to-back titles alive.
Fifth seeded Spaniard Fernando Verdasco looked pretty confident in posting a straight sets win over compatriot and 2003 French Open champion Juan Carlos Ferrero, winning the 7-5, 6-4 match after exactly 90 minutes of play.
In the only other singles match of the day, Eighth seed Marin Cilic of Croatia took out Frenchman Julien Benneteau 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 in a tussle that lasted one hour and 48 minutes in play.
