Heart-Break For Rookie Fast Bowler Muhammad Irfan As Sami, Abdul Rehman Included in T20 World Cup Squad

LAHORE – The Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt has approved Mohammad Sami and Abdur Rehman as replacement injured Umar Gul and Yasir Arafat in the Pakistan T20 team for the World Twenty20 championship.

Earlier, chief selector Mohsin Khan recommended the names of Mohammad Sami and rookie Mohammad Irfan as replacement for injured players but it was learnt that the ICC did not allow Irfan to be named as replacement because he was not among the provisional 30 players given by the PCB.

To avoid getting into further controversy and shun player’s power, the PCB brought in Rehman because Pakistan T20 captain Shahid Afridi wanted to have Irfan in the team while young Shahzaib Hassan’s name to was also doing the rounds. But now the PCB has announced Sami and Rehman to replace the injured Umer Gul and Yasir Arafat for ICC World Twenty-20 and the names have been approved by Chairman PCB.

Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi is hoping unheralded fast bowler Muhammad Irfan gets the go-ahead for the World Twenty20 Championship beginning in Guyana from April 30.

Shahid Afridi feels the 6ft 8inch tall Irfan can be a “surprise weapon” for Pakistan in the tournament.

But even after voting in favour of picking the 27-year-old left-arm pacer from Gaggu Mandi as a replacement for injured all-rounder Yasir Arafat, Afridi is unsure whether Irfan will be able to leave with the touring party April 24.
