Charles Oliveira wanted the submission, but Jim Miller got it.
Miller submitted Oliveira with a kneebar just 1:55 into their bout Saturday at UFC 124. Miller recorded his sixth consecutive win; Oliveira lost for the first time in his 15-fight career.
Oliveira set himself a goal of becoming the first person to submit Miller, who has only lost via decision. Oliveira started the fight throwing kicks, leading to a takedown by Miller.
Once they hit the ground, Oliveira kept throwing up his legs for armbars or triangles. Miller eventually grabbed Oliveira's left leg and applied the kneebar.
Going into Saturday's bout, Oliveira was viewed as one of UFC's brightest prospects. He won his first two bouts for the promotion with jiu-jitsu holds that earned him Submission of the Night awards, and he holds the promise of more improvement to come. The 21-year-old Oliveira is UFC's youngest fighter.
