MUMBAI - - According to recent news from the land of current Cricket World Cup champions; former chief of Indian Premier League (IPL) Lalit Modi is preparing to take legal action against Giles Clarke, chairman of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), for an email sent to BCCI officials warning of a plan to start a rebel T20 league in England.
Reportedly, the email sent to BCCI president Shashank Manohar along with members of the ECB board claimed that Lalit Modi and IMG, the international sports marketing firm, were involved in the negotiations with counties trying to convince them to initiate an IPL-style Twenty20 series in England.
Report in The Daily Telegraph suggests that the ECB chief Giles Clarke will face two libel actions; one from Lalit Modi and the other from IMG both of whom refute they were involved in any plan to set up a rebel Twenty20 league in England.
The so-called new T20 League plan called "Project Victoria" worth GBP 1.2 billion ($1.87 billion) will be a key part of a libel case to be heard in England's High Court this summer between some of the most powerful figures in the sport, added the report.
The case will be heard at a High Court in July and expected to cost around 2million pounds.
The email was later leaked to the media and Clarke denies being responsible for the leak.
