French Open 2011 - All Men's Top Seeds Sailed Through to Third Round

PARIS — All 13 of the men’s seeds in action at the French Open on Wednesday, and all 13 reached the third round.

So once again, it was left to the women to provide the drama — and the tears.
As night fell and Day 4 was wrapping up, Sabine Lisicki of Germany was carried off Court No. 1 on a stretcher, after cramps scuttled her bid to upset No. 3 seed Vera Zvonareva of Russia.

Lisicki was leading 5-2 in the third set when her body betrayed her in a 4-6, 7-5, 7-5 escape by Zvonareva.

“I hope she feels OK. I heard she’s feeling OK now. She’s seeing (the) doctor,” Zvonareva said. “That’s what happens sometimes. It’s part of the sport. No matter what, I had to keep doing my job. I kept fighting, and that’s all.”

Lisicki, 21, a former top-25 player considered a rising star a few years ago, knows all about leaving a tennis court under something other than her own power.

At the U.S. Open in 2009, Lisicki stumbled and sprained her ankle at 6-5 in the third set against Anastasia Rodionova of Australia. It was match point against Lisicki, and the match was over; she left the court in a wheelchair. It cost her the better part of a year and a half of her career.
