Afridi to Join Hampshire Next Week |
After a successful meeting with PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) chairman Ijaz Butt; Pakistan’s former ODI captain Shahid Afridi will get his ‘No Objection Certificate (NOC)’ restored and now he can play Friends League T20 in England.
Talking to BBC Radio, Afridi’s lawyer confirmed that Shahid Afridi would be able to join Hampshire next week. “The meeting between Shahid and Ijaz Butt [PCB chairman] went very well and both parties have come to an amicable agreement,” he further added.
The PCB suspended 33-year-old Shahid Afridi’s central contract and cancelled NOC after his derogatory comments about Board and its management. The cancellation of NOC restricts him to join Hampshire for the FL T20; but now he is likely to join his team after the settlement with chairman PCB as confirmed by his lawyer.
Present Twenty20 champions Hampshire have won five of their six matches in the competition so far this summer - the only mark on their record being Sunday's rain-off at Taunton - and are not in action again until Friday's trip to Glamorgan.
They are then due to face Worcestershire on Saturday, but it may be next Thursday's trip to Essex before Afridi can make his Hampshire bow.
