In a very crucial must-win game against England; Pakistani hockey team failed to make an impact in the first half of the match.
European champion England controlled the game totally and they were looking very very composed in their efforts to attack the Pakistani pole. Pakistani goal keeper Salman Akbar exhibited an impressive show by saving few shots of English players; but could not stop Jonty Clarke and Ashley Jackson in 21st and 31st minutes, respectively, of the first half. At last Shakeel Abbasi on the pass of Akhtar Ali decreased the English lead in the 45th minute of the game. A beautiful combined effort earned first goal for Pakistan. Only after three minutes Pakistan got a penalty corner that was converted into second goal for Pakistan; but England team opted to go for a referral and after quite a some time the review umpire confirmed the goal. In the process English defender injured and taken out of the game. At last at 48th minute of the match Pakistan leveled the match again on 2-2.
