Hockey World Cup 2010 - - Pakistan Vs. South Africa: Pakistan Out of The World Cup as South Africa Win by 4-3

Match between Pakistan and South Africa started with a normal pace. South Africa got a chance in the shape of penalty corner in the 3rd minute but wasted. Pakistani team was getting the full support from the crowd.

As Pakistan hoping to win with a big margin to revitalize the slim hopes for semi-finals. Rehan Butt made a good effort to open the scoreline for Pakistan and gave a platform for big goal margin by scoring his 1st of the match and second of the tournament in the 5th minute of the match. First attempt on the goal post from Akhtar Ali was stopped by South African goal keeper; but Rehan Butt succeeded to convert the rebound into the 1st goal of Pakistan.

Scoreline for first 10 minutes is 1-0 in Pakistan's favour.

Next 10 minutes were quiet in terms of attacking the opposition's goal posts. Shakeel Abbasi and Abdul Haseem got the slim chances to score a goal but couldn't connect the passes properly. South Africa was just defending in these 10 minutes of the match.

Scoreline still remains the same after 20 minutes of first half.

Pakistan forwards showed few good runs towards South African D-area but defence was quite effective from the South African players. In the 23rd minute of the match Pakistan got a penalty corner and a beautiful flick by Sohail Abbas couldn't be stopped by goal keeper and Pakistan doubled the lead. But suddenly South Africans decided to go for team referral; as they thought that ball was stopped inside the circle instead of outside the circle. The review showed that they were quite right and so the second goal was disallowed by the review umpire.

In the the process South African forwards also attacked couple of times on Pakistan goal post; but couldn't register a real threat for Pakistan. In 32nd minute Shakeel Abbasi had a good run with the ball dodging few defenders but couldn't send the ball into the nets. In the very last minute South African forward also got good chance to level the score but Pakistani defenders stopped cleverly.

Second half of the match was just all about the magical shift of the temperament of the South African team. In the beginning of the second half Pakistan showed the hints of first half performance but Rehan Butt's back flip stuck outside the pole and then suddenly South Africa started to dominate the game and within 6 minutes gap they scored three goals. Gareth Carr, Ian Haley and Taine Patton shared one goal each in the 39th, 42nd and 46th minute respectively. After that Pakistan never looked in control and South Africa kept on increasing the pressure in the shape of more combined and effective attacks of the Pakistan goal post. In this period South Africa wasted two more penalty corners.

In 55th minute South African forward Marvin Harper got a ball in the D-area that was deflected from Pakistani defender and he made no mistake to hit the ball into the nets. That hit was almost a cricketing shot smashed for a six that gave South Africa three goals lead and a chance to earn their first point in the world cup.

Pakistan succeeded to score two goals in the last four minutes. Muhammad Imran and Waseem Ahmed shared one goal each. Both goals were scored on the penalty corners. The last one by Waseem Ahmed was actually in the last seconds of the match; but even though Pakistan couldn't stop South Africa to earn their first point in the world cup.

The last scoreline was 4-3 in South African favour. The victory was happened to be the first win by South Africa over Pakistan in international hockey. Pakistan's poor performance got them out of the semi-final race totally.
