Earlier at the opening ceremony, the captains of the eight IPL teams signed a pledge to uphold the spirit of cricket during the tournament.

IPL commissioner Lalit Modi then declared the tournament open. UB 40, Abba Revival, Lionel Richie and Deepika Padukone performed at the ceremony.
