Pakistan managed to draw the 1st test against South Africa in Duabai. Younus Khan smashed his 17th test hundred as Pakistan. He scored unbeaten 131; while Misbah-ul-Haq also played a captain’s knock and helped the cause with his unbeaten 76.
South Africa set a huge target of 450; when visitors decided to declare their second innings on 318-2. Pakistan got a good start but the real resistance shown by Younus Khan who, with an element of luck, reached three figures by lofting a ball from off-spinner Johan Botha over deep midwicket for a six. Pakistan skipper Misbah brought up his half-century in the over before tea to reach the break on 52 not out off 127 balls. He started his innings quite nervously; but after his shaky start and drop catch on eight, he showed his class with fluent drives all over the ground.
The Proteas made matters even worse for themselves by poor show in the fireld aand dropping three catches on fifth and final day of the first test. Their poor fielding gave Younus Khan two lives while on 16 and 70. Misbah was dropped at short leg when he had scored just eight.
Promising youngster Azhar Ali, who had made his way to 63 off 159 deliveries, eventually fell when he was bowled by left-arm spinner Paul Harris with a ball that beat the Ali's defenses enough to shatter his off stump.
