Alberto Contador Won Volta of Catalunya; While UCI Decided to Appeal against His Release From Doping Charges

BARCELONA, Spain – Following the escape of doping test ban; Alberto Contador won the second consecutive title winning the Volta of Catalunya on Sunday. Earlier in March he won the Vuelta of Murcia and was fourth in the Tour of the Algarve after being cleared of a proposed one-year ban.

Contador maintained his Wednesday’s mountain stage lead keeping behind runner-up Michele Scarponi by 23 seconds.

Ireland's Daniel Martin finished third, 35 seconds back.

As reported earlier here almost a month back; Spanish Cycling Federation cancelled its Jan. 26 proposal for a one-year ban after considering final arguments by Contador’s legal team and finally cleared the champion from the dope charges.

The International Cycling Union (UCI) decided on Thursday to appeal against Contador's release by the Spanish cycling from the doping charges.
